Big Tractor Power is out in the field with tandem tractors. In the 1940’s. 1950.s and 1960’s big tractors on the farm were 30-50 hp. In this era of farming moldboard plowing was the primary tillage method and required lots of horse power. One tractor typically would pull a 2 or 3 bottom plow. Farmers looking to cover their acres faster sometimes would team there tractors together to jump from 30-50 hp to 60 to 100 hp. This pairing allowed the tractors to pull a 4 or 5 bottom plow to complete tillage work quicker. With the development of articulated 4wd tractors the need for tandem tractors went away in the late 1960’s.
